Want a great car for an affordable monthly payment - but without having to put down a hefty deposit? Check out these top no-deposit and low deposit deals
Using car finance to get behind the wheel of a new or used car has never been more popular. But affordable monthly payments are often facilitated by paying a hefty deposit up front. If you don't have a car to part-exchange, this could mean your savings take a hard hit.
You might think choosing to skip the deposit completely will mean you miss out on deals with the lowest monthly payments. However, it is still possible to bag yourself a good value purchase providing you pick the right deal. For example, cars offered with generous deposit contributions mean that saving is passed on to you in the form of more affordable monthly payments, while not requiring you to chip in much, or any, extra cash. For that reason, we've haven't excluded deals that require a very small deposit of a few hundred pounds.
One quick way to cut the cost of car finance is to go for a used car, rather than a brand-new model. If you're looking for a low deposit and cheap monthly payments, there are plenty of options available with BuyaCar.
Once you've found the car you like in the search results, simply click or tap it and then scroll down to the budget calculator and change the deposit amount to £0. The new monthly payment figure will automatically be calculated, so you can see how changing the deposit amount affects the monthly payment.

Suzuki Swift from £274 per month

Our pick Suzuki Swift Motion
£0 deposit £274 per month
Although the Suzuki Swift may not be quite as well-known a name as a Ford Fiesta or Volkswagen Polo, this little hatchback has been a feature of UK roads for forty years. Now in its fourth generation, the latest Swift has grown a little, but features a decent and economical all-new petrol engine, a stylish interior and a comprehensive list of standard equipment.
The Swift is also something of a bargain, with two PCP options to consider. There's a 25-month 0% APR deal, which requires a customer deposit, or you can opt for a longer agreement at 5.9% APR that includes a £500 deposit contribution and the option of not having to pay a deposit.

Hyundai i20 from £333 a month

Our pick Hyundai i20 Advance
£0 deposit £333 per month
Hyundai i20 review
The Hyundai i20 is a small car that’s affordable to buy and run, yet has plenty of practicality, particularly if you need to carry adults in the back. Other upside include the fact it has modern in-car tech and is good to drive. Most versions are frugal and sensible, and all benefit from Hyundai's long warranty.
You can get an i20 with zero deposit on PCP, and Hyundai is currently offering £1,750 as a deposit contribution, which helps keep the monthly payments in check.

Nissan Qashqai from £439 a month

Our pick Nissan Qashqai N-Connecta
£0 deposit £439 per month
Nissan Qashqai review
Others may have got there slightly before the Nissan Qashqai, but this is perhaps the car that took small family SUVs mainstream. Subsequent versions of Nissan's smash hit have brought improvements to safety kit, technology and interior quality, so it's no wonder that the Qashqai has proved so popular with buyers across the UK through its three generations.
The Qashqai is available with a decent £3,000 deposit contribution from Nissan, which means that if you opt for the zero deposit route, the monthly payments are still reasonably affordable.

Mercedes A-Class from £383 a month

Our pick Mercedes A180
£0 deposit £383 per month
Mercedes A-Class review
The Mercedes A-Class is an upmarket hatchback the competes with cars like the BMW 1 Series and Audi A3. It isn't quite as nice to drive as the former and lacks some of the all-round polish of the latter, but the A-Class is still competitive. A large part of that is down to the car's excellent interior, which features all the tech that's featured in Mercedes' larger models.
If the A-Class sounds like your kind of car, Mercedes is currently offering £4750 deposit contributions across the range, which means you can skip having to put down your own deposit. APR is a reasonable 4.9% and you also get the first two services included, saving you £696.

Toyota Corolla from £460 a month

Our pick Toyota Corolla Design
£0 deposit £460 per month
Toyota Corolla review
The Toyota Corolla name returned to UK roads in 2019, replacing the rather dull Auris. However, this wasn't just an exercise in badge swapping, as the latest Corolla is an impressive family hatchback. Nice to drive and very cheap to run thanks to the standard hybrid powertrain, the Corolla seems quite expensive to buy, but comes packed with luxury and safety equipment.
Toyota is offering a £3,200 deposit contribution on all Corolla models, and a relatively low 4.9% APR. Zero deposit is also an option, as below.

What finance can I use with no deposit?
Zero deposit car finance tends to be offered with Personal Contract Purchase (PCP). This is the most common way people buy cars in the UK, and means that once you've signed your deal, you’ll pay a monthly fee for an agreed length of time, usually two to five years, and then will have the option to own the car by paying the outstanding amount at the end of finance agreement.
One thing it's worth noting is that monthly payments are likely to be higher to take into account the fact that you didn’t pay a deposit to begin with. It can be worth taking the time to work out if you put down even a small deposit, how much that impacts your monthly payments over the course of your PCP deal.
Which cars are available with no deposit?
On paper at least, most carmakers offer zero deposit finance deals. That means, in theory at least, buyers should have plenty of choice in getting the exact car that meets their needs. However, this comes with the caveat that zero deposit deals require good credit scores to be approved, and that it's extremely important to consider how much the monthly payments and APR will be, and how that fits with your ability to pay.
If the sums add up, then a zero deposit deal will mean you can specify the car exactly as you want it, although delivery times are worth checking right now, as these can extend longer than usual given the continued chip shortage.
How do I get a 0 deposit car finance deal?
Unfortunately, a zero deposit car finance deal won’t be available to every buyer. That’s because, without a significant amount of money paid up front in the form of a deposit, there is a greater risk for the lender to take into account.
Everyone has to have their credit checked when signing up for finance. However, due to the risks involved for the lender, it’s likely that a more thorough credit check will take place, including proving your income, to make sure you’re good for the repayments. You may also be asked for a guarantor to ensure that payments will be received if you can’t afford them for any reason.
