We've rounded up our picks of the best cars with seven seats in eight categories, from boot space to running costs

The best car with seven seats isn’t the same for everyone. For some, the most important factor of their next seven-seater car will be that it has a big enough boot to carry luggage for seven people as well as the actual passengers, and for others it might be crucial that the seven-seater is a great off-roader, too.

After all, we all have different uses for our cars. If you’re using it as part of a business, then factors such as running costs are hugely important. Plus, those who spend a lot of time on the road will want something that is completely dependable as well as being able to carry seven people.

Meanwhile, those looking for a personal car might want a seven-seater for their family that’s stylish and luxurious, and the other factors aren’t as important to them. For others the price is the most important thing and they just want something that’s great value. There’s also the users who want to be able to get in and out easily, and have plenty of room inside once they’re on the move.

Each of these reasons to choose a seven-seater is as valid as each other, so we’ve put together this list of the best cars with seven seats covering eight categories. In each one we’ve picked out a great car that fits the intended purpose, but that is also good in other ways and is available right now on BuyaCar for far less than the new price.

We’ve stuck to cars that cost less than £30,000, as these offer the best value for money. We've gone for a mixture of newer and older models, as well as several types of seven-seater - there are SUVs, people carriers and van-based models as well.

Read on to find out our picks of the best cars with seven seats, why we’ve picked them and how much you can expect to pay for each one.

Best cars with seven seats

1. Citroen SpaceTourer

Best car with seven seats for boot space

Our pick Citroen SpaceTourer 1.5 BlueHDi Feel M
Used deals from £15,555
Monthly finance from £243*

The Citroen SpaceTourer is technically an eight-seater, but don’t let the extra seat stop you if you need a vehicle with lots of room for both passengers and luggage. Thanks to 1,384 litres of boot space with the seats in place and an enormous 3,300 litres with them folded, it’s one of the most capacious models around.

It’s also great for passenger space, as there’s so much interior room that nobody can complain about headroom, and legroom is good in every seat, too. It’s a great people mover, then.

The Citroen is pleasant enough to drive but it’s very much function over form, as it has a basic interior, slightly noisy diesel engines and it’s not the most practical when it comes to parking, due to its sheer size. Yet if what you need if space, there’s little else like it - aside from the Peugeot Traveller and Toyota ProAce Verso which are the same, but with different badging. So, if you fancy one of these, look for the best deal on any of these three, since they're so similar under the skin.

2. Land Rover Discovery

Best car with seven seats for off-roading

Our pick Land Rover Discovery 3.0 SDV6 SE Tech
Used deals from £29,995
Monthly finance from £454*

The previous-generation Land Rover Discovery is a fantastic choice of seven-seater for all sorts of reasons but the main one would be that it also happens to be one of the best off-roaders around, let alone the best seven-seater off-roader. That it’s now available under £30,000 is a bonus.

The Discovery came with all sorts of clever technology to help make off-roading easier, plus good ground clearance, four-wheel drive and good visibility to help you get over tough terrain in one piece - and to negotiate less challenging urban terrain just as easily.

The Land Rover Discovery is also luxurious and comfortable, has lots of room inside and a big boot - so it’s one of the most convincing and appealing models on this list, despite being a little older than some of the others.

3. Peugeot 5008

Best car with seven seats for running costs

Our pick Peugeot 5008 1.5 BlueHDi GT Line Premium
Used deals from £22,370
Monthly finance from £341*

The Peugeot 5008 is another great seven-seater that works for many different reasons. In 1.5-litre diesel form, it’s one of the most economical cars with seven seats that there is, but it’s also comfortable, stylish and has a fantastic interior.

The 1.5-litre BlueHDi model returns between 47.6mpg and 58.6mpg according to the latest official fuel economy tests, which is strong for any car, let alone a larger model that can fit seven people inside.

The 5008’s luxurious interior is one of its best features, as it feels like a more expensive car than it actually is. There’s a lot of cutting-edge tech including a large touchscreen media system and digital dials behind the steering wheel on all versions. The rearmost seats aren’t that spacious for adults but if you need the extra room for kids, it’s a great choice.

4. Vauxhall Combo Life

Best car with seven seats for easy access

Our pick Vauxhall Combo Life 1.2 Turbo Energy XL
Used deals Limited stock

The Vauxhall Combo Life is the same underneath as the Citroen Berlingo and the Peugeot Rifter, though there are interior differences to a small degree. All three of these cars are perfect when it comes to pure practicality - getting in and out, and space inside. We’ve picked the Vauxhall because used prices can be lower, but the others are just as good.

The sliding side doors mean that the opening to get in, even for the rearmost seats, is very big and anyone should be able to hop in easily. The seats are big and wide, and there’s loads of head and legroom once you’re sat inside, no matter which seat.

The Combo Life and its sister cars are even good to drive - they are comfortable, relatively quiet and easy to park thanks to technology such as parking sensors and a reversing camera. There are M and XL models, the latter being bigger and more roomy inside, so look for one of those if you're after maximum space.

5. Toyota Prius Plus

Best car with seven seats for town driving

Our pick Toyota Prius Plus 1.8 VVTi Excel
Used deals from £13,999
Monthly finance from £192*

If you’re going for a car with seven seats because you plan on using it a lot (for example, if you want to run a large minicab), then you need something that’s going to be very reliable. The Toyota Prius Plus is the model to choose here, because it has the reliability and low running costs of a normal Prius, but with seven seats.

The Prius has a proven reputation for reliability, with millions of miles on taxis and minicabs all over the country. Even if you’re simply purchasing a car for yourself but just want a really reliable car, the Prius Plus is a good choice. It’s not the most roomy for passengers but it does the job.

It’s a hybrid, so there’s a small electric motor that is used at low speed. This means the engine can be turned off when you’re in traffic, so it stays nice and quiet inside and reduces your fuel consumption. It’s also a comfortable car and deals with potholes really well.

6. BMW X5

Best car with seven seats for luxury

Our pick BMW X5 xDrive30d SE 7-seat
Used deals from £61,750
Monthly finance from £831*

If you want a seven-seater car that’s luxurious and upmarket, then the BMW X5 is a good option. The large engines in these cars mean they’re not all that economical - but they’re smooth, quiet and powerful, all very luxurious attributes.

The BMW X5’s interior is suitably upmarket and comfortable, with high-quality materials and soft seats. There’s lots of room inside - after all the X5 is a very large car - and a big boot, so it works well as a family car.

The X5 is comfy and quiet on the motorway, while wind and road noise levels are low even at high speed. The automatic gearbox is smooth too, and all of this contributes to the luxury feel you get from the big BMW.

7. Citroen Grand C4 Picasso

Best car with seven seats for value

Our pick Citroen Grand C4 Picasso 1.6 e-HDi 115 Exclusive auto
Used deals from £6,650
Monthly finance from £148*

The Citroen Grand C4 Picasso is a fantastic seven-seater people carrier, and it’s also the cheapest car on this list. That’s why it’s such great value - a model from the first half of the last decade will be very affordable yet still offers a huge amount of space inside and a comfortable ride.

Those are the best aspects of the Grand C4 Picasso - it’s smooth even on bumpy roads and over potholes, and the seats are nice and comfy too. There’s enough room in the rearmost seats for adults, though kids will be more at home as legroom is a little tight.

Access is good through the wide-opening doors, and the folding seats mean it’s versatile and useful if you need to carry something big in the back. Even with all the seats in place, the boot is big enough for a supermarket shop.

8. Seat Tarraco

Best car with seven seats for style

Our pick Seat Tarraco 1.5 TSI EVO Xcellence
Used deals from £18,900
Monthly finance from £267*

Some people don’t mind how a car looks and the way it performs is the most important thing - but that’s not always the case. The Seat Tarraco is the answer for someone who needs seven seats for their next car, but wants something that looks cool as well.

Its sharp styling means the Tarraco stands out, yet it has enough room inside for seven people. Its neat, modern-looking interior matches the exterior design, and it’s a great car to spend time in because it’s also comfortable, good to drive and roomy.

Okay, the rearmost seats could be a little bigger and easier to access. But if they’re not always in use then you’ve got a big boot to play with, plus spacious front and second-row seats. The Tarraco is also equipped with good technology such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and the engines available are mostly quiet, economical and punchy.
